FINISHES

Semi transparent wood finishing

Valmont wooden columns are designed to withstand different types of harsh environments: they are successfully installed not only in Nordic environments, in which temperature changes can extend over 80ºC during the year but also in Mediterranean environments, where UV-exposure is extremely severe. We have selected the surface treatments based on the ultimate combination of environmental friendliness and wood protection to obtain maximum product life cycle.

Main phase:

  • Treatment with water-dilutative alkyd wood preservative (protects against blue stain fungi, mildew and wood rot). Is used as a priming treatment for joinery products and other untreated wood in accordance with use class 3 of standard EN 335:1. Used in accordance with EN 599:1 for industrial application. Volatile organic compound (VOC) about 10g/litre.
  • Poles are coloured once with translucent wood protection. VOC 20g/l.
  • Varnishing twice with colour tinted water-dilutative alkyd-acrylic binder. Protection against UV radiation, blue stain fungi and mildew. Varnish has excellent weather resistance because it has been pigmented and thus protecting the layers under it. VOC 29 g/l.

Upkeep

Depending on location, wooden pole might need after decade some maintenance. Pole can be brushed while standing if surface is mildewy. Colour in pole might fade in a hot solar radiation. Grinding and surface treatment can be redone on-site easily when needed. After treatment pole looks like new again.
